Task I — Best Three 3:20 max
Three best of unlimited attempts
About this task
Rule: Best 3 flights count. 3:20 max. Unlimited flights in 10 minutes working time.
The Challenge: The slightly unusual 3:20 target (vs the usual round numbers) and unlimited attempts make this a pure skill task. With enough time for 3 good flights if you're efficient, it rewards finding consistent lift.
Decision factors:
- 3:20 is long enough to require real lift, not just float
- Unlimited attempts give recovery options
- Time management: 3 flights × 3:20 = 10 minutes exactly, so no margin for failed attempts if you want 3 maxes
- Must find lift, can't just stay up on skill alone for 3:20
What the data says: A middle-of-the-road task — 31.3% top, 9.4% crash. The 3:20 target is long enough that thermal assistance matters. Pilots who consistently find lift cluster at the top; those who don't spread across the full range. Difficulty of 66.5 reflects that it's harder than the short-target tasks but more forgiving than the decision-heavy ones.
